    • @Christina - It just so happens there are two Whole Foods in the area! One on the UWS just off the park at 808 Columbus and one at Columbus Circle!

    • Hi Elizabeth - Christina makes a great point. Are you open to discovering other dog friendly neighborhoods? The Where Quiz will prioritize these neighborhoods for you if you specify what is important to you (ie. dog parks, outdoor space, etc.)

  • Was planning fishing with my friends when I realized I didn’t have the proper clothes to wear. I Went to several shops in the UWS to find the perfect outfit and I ended up being at the Patagonia NYC UWS. I’m glad I visited this store with my buds. We looked at different collections and this store was so organized – everything was in its place and was very well categorized. I got a comfortable hoodie with puff pants and river salt boots. My friends purchased a guide water 29L backpack and a pullover as well. We were amazed by the variety in the store and the store itself was quite clean. We looked at other shops as well but could only find what we were looking for at Patagonia. It came to my surprise that Scotch and Soda’s opening nearby too. Patagonia is the best shop to visit if you’re looking for outdoor clothing. It has climbing, surfing, skiing, and trail running clothes as well. The prices were a bit high but we managed to get a little discount for the number of items we purchased. The quality and services were great, and the staff was really helpful to us by guiding us about the right clothing to buy. Patagonia purchases made our fishing experience wonderful and easy!

  • My mom was complaining about backaches and how she works all day and since her birthday just passed, I decided to surprise her with a little gift. My friend told me about this massage place in the area nearby so I took her to Hua Kang Best Qi Gong Tui-Na. the place was very clean, soothing and the lit scented candles made it even more relaxing. They took great measurements for COVID like clean towels, fully disinfected rooms, etc. My mum got a full body massage from there and I got a back and neck massage. The staff was really nice and understood what we needed. The masseuse focused on the tense areas and did not hurry up. The pressure they applied was perfect and oh my it was such a heavenly experience. The masseuse was kind enough to extend the 60 minutes session to 90 minutes. I wish I could stay there forever lol. I liked how they offered reasonable and excellent services, and how the workers were extremely skilled at their work. My mum and I felt completely relaxed and contented when we got home. It’s the best place for relieving stress, you guys should definitely visit it too!

  • Once you've walked around Riverside Park, don't miss the chance to wander the nearby streets, where you can easily find elegant and ornate 2-3 story mansions from the second half of the 19th century that still remind you of how New York City was built over 150 years ago

    • Some great spots for exemplary townhouse architecture are Manhattan Avenue between 105 and 108; Sugar Hill in Harlem; and East End Ave between 86 and 87.

  • One of my favorite spring and fall activities out here is to grab some takeout food, grab a blanket, and have a lunchtime picnic with friends at the park. Riverside park is nice, big, and spacious so you can keep your six feet while you picnic. You can also easily walk over to the Hippo Playground if you have kids, or make your way over to the Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Monument, which is a neat historical site. There’s also the Joan of Arc Monument in the opposite direction. It’s overall just a great area to get some fresh air and spend time walking around and looking at things. The park is only a couple of blocks away from Broadway, so you can easily have your choice of whatever food you want to take out from. They also have a neat little garden area in Riverside park, as well. I would recommend entering the park over by Riverside and 91st, so you’re perfectly in the middle of everything!

  • Zabars is a pretty iconic spot, whether you’re a local or a traveler. Most people recognize the name, even if you don’t realize it! It’s been mentioned in so many different New York movies and tv shows. I’m sure there’s more online but it was mentioned in the Marvelous Ms. Maisel, How I met Your Mother, 30 Rock, and Friends. It’s basically a unique market with possibly the best selection of smoked fish and cheeses. We get bagels here pretty regularly, too! It’s typically pretty packed because it is popular and has a ton of regulars as well as tourists on the regular. The assortment is so impressive though! You can pick up deli samplers or brunch boxes, and it makes everything easy and ready to go. Everything is delicious here and honestly, you cannot go wrong with whatever you get! It’s also a great gift (keep in mind some of it is obviously going to be perishable!). Plain and simple- you can’t call it a New York trip without hitting up Zabar’s and trying some smoked fish and cheese!

  • I was looking for something to do with some friends that would not require us to be outside but that also was affordable. We’ve all been trying to be a bit better about spending money this year! We decided to head to the American Museum of Natural History. I was pleasantly surprised at the range and diversity in this museum! It was incredible. They had plenty of traditional-type museum artifacts like fossils and the Roosevelt Memorial. But what I really loved was the amount of animal-related exhibits. There was a hall just for mammals, and another one for birds and reptiles. All of the exhibits are really well done and visually stunning. The Biodiversity hall was also equally fascinating! We wandered for hours and I really felt like I could do an entire second day. Fun fact- if you’re a fan of Night at the Museum, like I am, this is the museum from that movie! It was so fun to see all these things I’ve seen from the movie in this very museum. I think it’s perfect for this cold winter weather or in the summer to avoid the big heat. I will also say- it is a great place to go on your own for a solo day. There’s plenty to see and mill about and it can be wonderfully meditative and interesting.

  • I know it’s not the right season, but I would love to share one of my favorite spring spots before I forget. There is this super cute cafe I discovered a few summers ago with some friends. It’s called Pier i Cafe, and it’s just an adorable spot. It’s located right on the Hudson, surrounded by park with a great view of the river. The few times I’ve been, it’s been pretty slammed but if you’re willing to put your name in, walk around, and wait for a table to open, then it really is a great location. You have to be patient for some of the best spots! It’s mostly outdoor dining, which is what you want to really enjoy the sunshine and the view. It shoots out right over the water! The first time I went was in late May and it was perfect. I went again in August and boy, it was a bit too hot outside. Spring or fall is really the best time to go. The food is basically traditional bar food, but good quality bar food! I remember traditional stuff, like burger and fries, but more importantly I remember specifically that I had the lobster roll- fantastic. Would totally recommend it. They also have a super solid wine and beer menu, and its a great spot for after work or weekend drinks along with some small bites. Makes it so easy to enjoy the view and the company!
