I had no idea the battle of Long Island happened in Richmond Hill! During the revolutionary war, Washington's troops were defeated in Forest Park. If anyone has ever watched Hamilton, you know what happens after that 🤣 Before that, it was inhabited by the Native American Lenape tribe. I think I got that right. Back then, they were referred to as the "Rockaway Indians" (I hate typing that), but their correct name is Lenape. Correct me if I got that wrong! Anyways. Richmond hill was full of trails. One of the trails is now Jamaica Avenue/Fulton Street. Cool right? Makes you want to learn more and respect who was here before us!
You know those nights where you just need the classics? Yeah. That's Alfie's to me. They're simple, and they're really, really good. Alfie's isn't overpriced, and the pizza is worth it! Everyone says they're the real deal, and they are. Besides, they have tons of different pizzas, pies, and calzones! There's red sauce base, white sauce base, and if you're looking for a bit of green, their caesar salad is bomb. What's your favorite pizza spot?
I love that Smokey Park isn't actually called Smokey Park, but everyone still calls it that 💀 Originally it was called Smokey Oval Park because of the Long Island Railroad terminus. Basically, the station covered the park in soot and ash. I mean, is anyone surprised? But, in 2008, it was renamed after Phil "Scooter" Rizzuto, the local legend. You know, he played for the Yankees! I'm not a baseball person, but he supposedly coined the term "Holy Cow!" I believe it! Anyways, I heard there are always events happening at Smokey Park! Does anyone know of any? I'd love to get involved!!!
