My favorite place to grab pizza from is the Crosby Pizza Stop whenever go through the Crosby Avenue. In fact, it’s the best pizza I have had in Bronx yet and my kids love this place for being so clean and comfortable. The slices are super huge and the quality and taste is amazing. I didn’t like the garlic bread tho, it was overly tasty. My kids enjoy being here because the staff’s just too friendly and a guy is even friends with my little one! By the way, how is the peperoni pinwheels from here? I’ve never tasted that my entire life! My husband mentioned about it. I guess I should give it a try as well when I come to this place with him!

I am sure if you visit City Island, you would not leave without tasting the seafood here. It appears to be the hub of all the seafood restaurants and choosing where to eat could be one hell of a task. Sammy’s shrimp box kind of stood out from the other restaurants, maybe because of the crowd. I visited there during lunch hours which is supposed to be free but I still had to wait in line for the entry. The ambiance was very cozy and dark, they had neon lights hung over which was making the dine-in experience even more subtle. The menu there might seem a bit overpriced but it gets compensated with the taste, it's simply awesome. If you’re lucky, you may get appetizers for free. Do try out “The Crab and Lobster Feast” there, it comprises a whole Maine Lobster with King Crab Legs, Snow Crab legs, Crab Catch of the day and Jumbo Fried Shrimp served with yellow rice. This was enough to energize me for the entire day. I am sure you would cherish your visit to the Sammy’s Shrimp Box so do check it out!

If you are in City Island and planning a fishing expedition, Jack’s Bait and Tackle is the store you can always rely on. They are the largest wholesaler on the East Coast running this business for four generations. You will find them rolling at 551, City Island Avenue selling almost everything when it comes to fishing. You can even rent a boat here (Chartered/Unchartered) at a very affordable price but that happens on a first-come, first-serve basis. The fishing gear that you get here is top-notch but their USP is fresh baits. You can get eel, bloodworms, nightcrawlers, crabs, trout worms, in short, almost everything that the fishes love to eat. The staff here is really helpful, they not only helped me with all the supplies but also guided me to the perfect spot where I can catch a Porgy or a bluefish. Luckily, I was able to catch both!! Next time you think of fishing, knock Jack’s Bait and Tackle, you won’t be disappointed!

Collecting vintage toys and gadgets has always been my obsession ever since I got hold of my senses. Starting with tazos to action figures, you will find everything arranged in my cupboard. Last week, I was on a solo trip to City Island, when I came across this eerie-looking vintage store at 239 City Island Avenue, known by the name 239 Play. As soon as I entered, it had this 80s vibe and they are actually selling people’s childhood back to them. From 1890s frozen Charlotte Dolls to small ceramic figures, nostalgic Nintendo consoles, and the re-energizing Ninja Turtles and Transformers action figures, this store has it all. For a second I felt that I am just a kid and the stream of endorphins rushed through my brain. You would love to meet Dan Treiber, who is the owner of 239 play and stays more ebullient than anyone else. Like all other small businesses across New York, 239 play had to stay closed during COVID, so if you are in City Island, do take some time out and support this Vintage store!
