Is Mapleton NY safe? The rate of crime in Mapleton is 8.78 per 1,000 residents during a standard year. People who live in Mapleton generally consider the northeast part of the city to be the safest. When looking at the crime map for Mapleton, remember that the rate of crime per resident may appear inflated when people visit the area during the day, but do not live there. For example, there are few retail establishments in the city. Many crimes are committed in retail areas in blocks where few people live. Red areas on the crime rate map do not always indicate danger for Mapleton residents who live there. By a simple count ignoring population, more crimes occur in the southeast parts of Mapleton, NY: about 0 per year. The northeast part of Mapleton has fewer cases of crime with only 0 in a typical year.

  • • Mapleton Library: After two decades in smaller locations, Mapleton Library opened at its current home on the corner of 17th Avenue and 60th Street in 1955. The branch’s most popular programs include Homework Help, Story Play, Chess Club and Teen Tech Time. • Maple Lane RV Park and Marina: Maple Lane RV Park and Marina is situated right on the Siuslaw River and the fishing is great here! The Siuslaw River floats right by the park before emptying into the Pacific Ocean at Florence, Oregon. The Siuslaw River offers first-class opportunities to fish for a run of wild fall Chinook salmon, as well as a robust run of hatchery winter steelhead. Chinook salmon start showing up in the bay in August, peaking there in September. Over the next two months, the fish begin their migration up the river. The fall Chinook run ends in November. Steelhead are in the river from November through March, with February and March producing the largest concentration of fish. Fall Chinook here are typically in the 20-pound range, while steelhead average around 5 pounds. Bottomfish are available in the bay year-round. So, if you’re coming for the fishing, we’re sure that you’ll find something to catch! #mapleton

  • • Mapleton contains Washington Cemetery, the largest inhabited Jewish cemetery in New York. Many Orthodox Jews are buried there, as are many prominent people. The cemetery is located on Bay Parkway and stretches from 59th Street to East 3rd Street. • The neighborhood contained a park named Mapleton Park (also known as Mapleton Oval) at 62nd Street and 20th Avenue, which was completed in 1916. The field lasted through at least 1920 and was the home of the Mapleton Park Nine baseball team. The oval may have been named after an old neighborhood name for the area. Today, the legacy of the name Mapleton Park exists in a local synagogue, the Young Israel of Mapleton Park, near 65th Street and Bay Parkway (22nd Avenue). • Mapleton contains the 6.38-acre (2.58 ha) Gravesend Park, located on 18th Avenue between 56th and 57th Streets. The park was created in 1917 and was named after the nearby neighborhood of Gravesend. It contains two baseball fields, two basketball courts, fitness equipment, four handball courts, and four playgrounds. Gravesend Park was renovated in 2016 for $7.25 million. Properties in the neighborhood that were too small to develop, such as Dahill Triangle, have also been designated as parks.
