Hoffman & Swinburne Islands are also called the quarantine islands of New York. My dad told me about how it was built to accommodate people with contagious diseases that were super deadly. Today, both islands are considered bird sanctuaries for nesting shorebirds, gulls, and others. All the work’s being monitored by the New York Audubon. Additionally, there are man-made islands so I guess there isn't much topographical work there as in other islands. Currently, both islands are under National Park Service and the public is not allowed to go there. The Swinburne Island’s also famous for accommodating harbor seals and grey seals. I wonder if I could visit the place someday?
